Available Positions:
President
- Bobby Yount - I Started RC modeling in 1967 flying at Zilker Park. We later moved to Manchaca road as Hill County RC. When two South Austin Clubs lost their leases around the same time, they merged as HCAM and obtained flying privileges at our current location. I have been active both on and off of the board of directors since early 1990, and a contest director for the past 5-6 years. If the club membership so chooses, I will look forward to serving as president and promoting every aspect of our hobby and growing our membership and participation. I would like to make it clear to our members that this is a HOBBY/SOCIAL CLUB, not a job. Considering that, there will be times that I may not be available to attend meetings and will rely on our Vice President or another club officer to officiate over any meeting I am not at. Also my philosophy is, director meetings should be kept as short as possible and address those thing requiring immediate attention, after all we are out there for one basic reason; "TO HAVE FUN".
Vice President
- Dennis Caudle - Experience:
First RC Plane was in 1954. During the next 55 years I never lost my love of RC or the good times and good folks who share that love. During the years my bride of 43 years and I raised our family and we started businesses in aerospace my flying time was fairly limited. By the 1970’s I was back into Pattern and able to fly consistently. I was able to work with the Santa Barbara County Parks and secure a permanent field for the TriCounty Fliers. I served as a club officer for multiple terms. We then started another company and for the next 18 years lived in San Diego County. I served as President and all other offices for over twelve terms with the Wingmasters (see history link http://sdwingmasters.com/pages/history.htm ). Working with the San Diego Parks and Solid Waste division I started the San Diego Association of Model Clubs which later became a Chapter of AMA with 3000 AMA pilots and 16 clubs. We secured over 10 permanent fields for local clubs. We went from one paved field in 1982 to 12 paved fields by 1990. I served as the AMA Chapter President, VP, Treas. Sec. for many terms over a 14 year period. I have been an instructor for over 30 years with several clubs. With decades of experience I believe I have learned the most important essence of what RC should be about – having fun and sharing with friends.
I joined HCAM after we moved to Austin in 2006 and since have become close friends with several members, developed a real respect for the founders of our awesome field, really enjoy the broad diversity of our member’s skills and ideas, and believe our future is limited only by ourselves. If HCAM decides to elect me to Vice President, I will do my best to work for the benefit of the club and the many members who share my love of RC.
Secretary
Treasurer/Membership Coordinator
- Rick Frysinger - Background: 8-9 years in HCAM with past experience in officer positions.
Why do you want to run? The T/MC position is a critical one to the club; I have held it the past 10 months. It requires an individual that is fully accessible to members and potential new members. It can require an average of 1-3 hours per week managing the club's financial affairs and much more at club membership renewal time.
In the past 10 months, we have established a number of internal controls to ensure that the club officers and directors are continually updated on the status of club financial issues AND that the activities of the Treasurer can be monitored as necessary.
I will no longer be the Safety officer or the Flight Instruction Coordinator, so I have more time and am willing to serve the club as needed.
Safety Officer
- James Houck - Background: My first flying model was a control line Syndrome during the summer of 1957. It was powered by a Cox 020. I flew it in my grandfather’s parking lot in San Antonio being sure to go over or under the garage doors. I graduated to larger control line planes when we moved to Vandenberg AFB, CA later that summer. My first RC plane was a single channel radio with one button on it. Push and hold and the rudder moved left. Release and the rudder centered, push again and the rudder moved right. Remember to wind the rubber band that powered the rudder. The transmitter had a couple of tubes. Fast forward to 1970. I bought my first proportional radio, A Heathkit, which I built. I took my Heathkit and an H-Ray airplane to Vietnam in 1971. I flew off the end of the runway at Hue Phu Bai AFB. The airfield commander said ‘don't hit my helicopters’, and I didn't. I was assigned to a SF camp in Kontum in May and flew there off the helicopter pad. Once I crashed into the barbed wire/minefield that surrounded the camp and paid a Montagnard soldier to go get it for me (so I know a little bit about safety). Never hit a Helicopter. Flew a little a MacDill in Florida but left the hobby when I was transferred to RAF Mildenhall in England in 1974. I rejoined the hobby in September 2007 at HCAM and finally soloed in February of 2008. I want to experiment with all types of airplanes. I am still learning about flying and flying safely.
Why do you want to run?: I want to help continue our excellent safety record and bring a balanced approach to flying fun and flying safety as the club evolves.
